In 2017, I found an art print by Cat Coliquette on Society6 that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED. (She’s still one of the best-selling artists on Society6 and is making BIG waves around the world).
But there was one problem…
I was hesitant to buy this print because I didn’t know if Society6 was a safe website. I also didn’t know what their customer service was like, or if their products were high-quality.
And that’s why I wanted to write this Society6 review. I wish I would of had someone like me, a repeat customer at Society6, to tell ME the real pros and cons of this art site.
I love Society6, but not every product they sell is 100% liked by every customer. And with my own Society6 shopping experience and reading 1,452 customer reviews, I wrote this post with a focus on the problems they (and I) had.

We all know that companies evolve over the years. Their products and services either get better or they don’t.
Founded in 2009, Society6 has gone through many changes.
So, in this post, I will mention Sitejabber and Trustpilot customer reviews that were written prior to 2017. However, I decided to focus more on reviews written in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. This focus will make sure that you are aware of the most current pros and cons.
2. Customer Service
In previous years, there were a few negative reviews about Society6’s customer service.
Yet, lately, their customer service is kicking major ass!
They go above and beyond what most customers expect.
Will you marry me Society6 Customer Service?
Society6 refunded me fully after I accidentally ordered the wrong size phone case. Amazing. I asked if I could ship it back and they responded, “Keep it, donate it, use it as a gift. Art is meant to be appreciated, not returned. Please try to find them a good home.”Alli W. – 7/12/17 – Sitejabber
Hundreds of customers raved at how quick they received replies to their concerns.
By reading the reviews, it was obvious that the customer service team made a lot of people happy. Helpful and professional, customer service receives an A++.
Does Society6 Have a Phone Number?
A source of frustration for a few customers is that Society6 doesn’t list their phone number.
To contact them, you have two options:
- The best option is to fill out a request form on their website.
- You may also connect with them via Facebook or Twitter.
One creative reviewer had this to say about the customer service and their lack of a phone service:
On a second order, not one, not two, not three, but four attempts to resolve a problem placing an order were futile. Although I patiently explained the problem and how I wanted to resolve it, I felt as though I was communicating with an uncomprehending hamster staring blankly back at me. In fact, the difficulty of training hamsters to converse might explain why they don’t offer telephone support.Don M. – 9/7/17 – Sitejabber
The majority of reviewers said customer service was very quick to reply, even on a Friday night. But there were a few customers who complained of not receiving replies at all.
These types of complaints were rare. So it’s safe to assume that these customers were having some kind of technical issue.
I mean… in the several years I’ve been buying from Society6, I never once had a problem getting a response from customer service. And, they’re freakin’ great people.
If you find yourself in a situation where you can’t connect with a customer representative, keep these tips in mind:
- Double-check your email address when filling out the contact form.
- If you contact customer support and you don’t receive a reply, check your junk mail.
- Still no reply? Sometimes emails can get blocked by spam filters. Try emailing them again using a popular email service like Gmail or Outlook. Or send them a message on Facebook or Twitter.
Returns, Refunds, and Replacements
Many customers who got defective products got refunds or replacements without any difficulty. Many reviewers also said they got to keep the original items.
So what happens if you buy something that you love from Society6, but don’t really like it when you see it in real life? What happens if the item you bought is the wrong color or size?
Many customers said they got a refund without difficulty.
The best part:
Customer service sometimes told customers to keep the original product.
Best Customer Service I’ve Ever Seen
I ordered a phone case for my new phone, but it was not what I was expecting. In order to get my refund, I had to go onto their website and create an account, which took about 30 seconds. Then I pulled up the item, clicked that I wanted a refund, and a message came up saying a refund would be issued within three days, and that I didn’t need to return the item. I have experienced some really really bad customer service lately, and this definitely restored my faith in this area. Well done.Tricia C. – 10/13/17 – Sitejabber
No matter the issue, customer service went beyond the customers’ expectations. The process of receiving replacements or refunds was hassle-free. No questions asked.
3. Quality and Prices
Most reviewers thought the products were affordable and the quality was impressive. And, I agree with them.
One thing to keep in mind while shopping on this site is that all prices are in US dollars.
It’s a good idea to use a currency converter, like the one I added below, to see an estimate of how much a product will cost you.
Quality: What Went Wrong?
Well, call me a pessimist but I like to focus on what people didn’t like about the products.
So here are a few things to look out for when ordering from Society6.
In 2017, most customers said the quality of the products surpassed their expectations.
Yet there were the rare few who mentioned receiving prints with black ink spots. A couple of reviewers mentioned receiving products with stains or smudges. These blemishes might have been subtle, but still there.
A few reviewers mentioned the artwork itself was either pixelated or blurry. This error is probably due to artists uploading images that are too small for the products.
Amazing site with great service
I have had good luck with the quality of products overall, but when I ordered leggings and the print was fuzzy, they immediately issued me a refund. I didn’t even have to return the pants….. Amazing!becca u. – 9/4/17 – Sitejabber
There were two reviewers stating that part of the print on the product was cut off.
I ordered a Dexter throw blanket and it didn’t come the way the pictured showed. Nothing horrible-just the top of his head cut off and name cut out. I emailed them with a picture of my complaints and they were super understanding. It was, unfortunately, nothing the production team could do so they gave me a full refund and allowed to keep it. Again, the error above was probably due to an oversight on the artist’s part. Sometimes they upload their artwork without placing it correctly on the product’s template.
I would think the production team would be able to catch these errors before shipping the order. Yet these “errors” sometimes wouldn’t be “errors”, but part of the artwork itself. Who’s to judge?
Either way, customer service still won the hearts of those whose items were less than perfect.
According to the majority of reviewers, the quality of the art prints was impressive. However, when ordering art prints – framed or unframed – here is a warning:
The size of the print INCLUDES the white border around the artwork.
For example, the website states that the mini unframed art print is 8″ x 8″. The paper is, in fact, this size. But you have to take into account that the white border is 1 inch all around. So the actual artwork will only be 7″ x 7″.
Most art prints will include a white border that measures around 3.5 inches.
So keep this in mind if you’re looking to buy wall art from Society6.
T-shirts and Hoodies
One thing to look out for when purchasing t-shirts and hoodies, for both men and women, are the sizes. They are printed on American Apparel branded garments which run a little small. You might want to order 1 size up. So make sure to check the sizing info available on every product page.
All Over Print Shirts
Updated April 9, 2019: They’re “all-over-print shirts” are now replaced by their NEW all over graphic tees. And these are MUCH better because they feature original art from seam to seam!
I would NOW recommend these shirts because they’re much better quality.
(But I’ll leave my old review for you guys just in case you want to read it).
One major issue with the all-over print shirts is that the print isn’t actually 100% all over the shirt.
If the background of the design isn’t white, there are white marks left at the seams under the arms and sides. At first glance, it almost looks like deodorant marks.
Society6 does warn customers of this issue on their website:
So would I recommend this shirt to a friend?
The only way I would recommend this item is if the background of the artwork is white.
Here’s a warning if you’re considering buying a small-sized carry-all pouch:
The artwork on the small pouches will be cropped a bit more than the image shown on the website.
When I think of wall tapestries, I think of thick woven fabric. So I thought I would mention that Society6’s tapestries are not that.
These wall tapestries are thin printed fabric sheets with hand-sewn edges.
… And they’re one of Society6’s most popular items.
These tapestries are definitely great graduation gifts because they’re a lightweight alternative to hanging up posters on your wall. Perfect for covering bland dorm room walls that you’re not allowed to paint.
In university, I had a tapestry similar to the ones sold on Society6. It definitely made my room comfy and feel like a home away from home.
The majority of reviewers loved the fit and the quality of the iPhone designs. But if they had a complaint, it was this one:
Society6 slim iPhone cases are actually really thin.
A lot of customers prefer a slim case. But if you are looking for a case with more weight and texture, this is not the case for you.
If you’re looking for protection, the tough cases have a rubber bumper that extends a few millimeters above the phone. They also have adventure cases available for even more protection.
Hand, Bath, and Beach Towels
Society6’s hand & bath towels and beach towels run on the thin side. So these towels aren’t for you if you’re looking for thick, fluffy towels.
Also, be aware that the towels are only printed on one side. The other side is white.
Got a Problem? Contact Customer Service
If you receive a product that’s imperfect in any way or not to your liking, contact customer service. From all the 1,452 reviews I’ve read, I’m convinced that they’ll want you to be happy with the end result.
Although the tapestry wasn’t exactly what we were looking for, the customer service was incredible. There is a long list of companies that should take notes on genuine customer relations that Society 6 provides. We won’t hesitate to buy from this company again.Caitlin B. – 10/13/17 – Sitejabber

I didn’t find that customers complained about shipping prices. This might be because free shipping offers are sometimes advertised on their homepage.
If there is no free shipping offer, the website displays shipping prices before you buy. All you have to do is add a product to your cart and select the destination country.
Where Does Society6 Ship From?
Society6 products are made and shipped from different locations in the United States. They do not ship products from their Santa Monica office.
If your destination country is not in the United States, you might get a little surprise.
The good news:
If you send a picture of your customs fees receipt, Society6 will issue you a refund.
Purchased £80 worth of goods. All arrived within the average delivery time for my area, free shipping to the UK. Lovely items, just as described. They even refunded me my customs charge, as it was my first order! I can’t wait to order from them again. Things to keep in mind:
- This is a one time offer per customer.
- They will not pay out more than the total amount paid for your order.
- This offer is not applied to wholesale or bulk purchases.
How Long Does Society6 Take to Ship Products?
On their website, Society6 has the following information:
- Shipping to the USA takes an average of 5-10 days. Orders are shipped by USPS.
- Shipping wall prints, mugs, and notebooks to Australia take 5-10 days. Orders are shipped by Australian Post.
- All other International shipping takes 1-3 weeks and is shipped by the Local Postal Service.
However, by reading the reviews, this is what I could gather:
Delivery Time: Society6’s Shipping in the United States
All Society6 orders take 1 to 3 business days for production time, plus delivery time.
If you live in the Contiguous United States, you can expect your order to arrive within 2 weeks.
Delivery Time: Society6’s International Shipping
International shipments generally take between 1 to 3 week to be delivered.
However, a few international reviewers mentioned having to wait 4 to 5 weeks for their order. Delivery time depends on the destination country and delays at Customs. The latter being something Society6 can’t control.
I wasn’t surprised when I read international customers complain about delivery time.
Unfortunately, this is the fact:
Cheap or Free Shipping = Waiting for Awhile
Damaged or Lost Packages
There were some complaints about damaged or lost packages, many of which appeared to be the mail carrier’s fault. Since Society6 doesn’t hire or fire employees at the shipping company, it’s not their fault. Shipping mishaps happen to all online art stores.
When it comes to these unfortunate shipping situations, the question is this:
If there is a mishap while your order is being shipped, how will customer service fix the issue?
This is where Society6 won the hearts of many. According to reviews, they are quick to send replacements.
I placed 4 orders and while ago, after three weeks, I contacted customer support to inquire about my order. I was told my orders might have been lost, and was issued a replacement for free. The customer support, especially Brittany, always replies back quickly! That’s why I always keep coming back. After about 10 days I received 3 or of 4 items that I ordered. The fun thing is, two days later, I received one item that was lost and the customer service asked me to keep it or donate it. They really are super nice and professional! Kudos to the customer service team for doing an excellent job.
All customers received tracking numbers with their orders.
There were a few complaints from customers who didn’t get their orders in time for Christmas.
The holidays are a busy time of year for any successful online store. Society6 included! Shipping companies and Customs can also get swamped during this time.
For 12 years, one of my responsibilities as a full-time artist was to ship artwork all over the world. So listen to me when I say this:
If you are buying gifts for Christmas online, shop EARLY.
It’s a good idea to order by the end of November if you’re in the Contiguous United States. If you’re an international customer, it’s a good idea to order by the beginning of November.
This gives you plenty of time if there’s some kind of mix up.
It’s possible to purchase something from Society6 in December and receive it on time for Christmas. It’s just that I, personally, would not take the risk it because I’m a nervous person to begin with.

5. What I Love Most About Society6
I think the best part about online stores like Society6 is that it helps artists do what they do best – making the world a much more interesting and beautiful place by selling their art around the world.
